Allen Bradley’s 842E-MIP3BA encoder is a multi turn encoder that uses Ethernet/IP networks. It is part of the Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation 842 series encoder. The 842E-MIP3BA Ethernet/IP encoder communicates with its connected programmable controller using an Ethernet/IP network. It has an embedded Ethernet/IP switch that can be used to connect it to other devices using Ethernet networks, which can be in series, DLR, star, and linear topologies. The 842E-MIP3BA Ethernet/IP network encoder is designed to be as compact as possible to improve efficiency and save installation space. The ball bearings used in this encoder have a spacing of 30 millimeters or 1.18 inches to extend their service life.
The Allen Bradley 842E-MIP3BA multi turn Ethernet/IP encoder can determine the absolute position of the rotating motor shaft within multiple turns. It can be upgraded using CompactFLASH. The 842E-MIP3BA Ethernet/IP encoder acts as an I/O adapter in Ethernet and can send and receive implicit and explicit messages in a cyclic manner or based on requests. Implicit messages are used for real-time communication between encoders and programmable logic controllers or PLCs connected to them, while explicit messages are used for non real-time communication between these devices. If the 842E-MIP3BA Ethernet/IP encoder is used as part of a DLR topology or linear topology, Allen Bradley does not recommend using more than 50 nodes simultaneously in both topologies.
